walking into october

most of the colour we have around here is added in the autumn decor.
the weather has cooled down...enough to take some nice walks.
the leaves are just starting to change but as i said before it will
probably be a fairly colourless autumn because of the harsh summer drought.
this week my darling hubby and i went on such a walk.
last week i was delayed while driving when three huge buffalo were
crossing on my street...escapees from a neighbours property.
well this afternoon...this is what we encountered on our walk.
a horse drawn wagon with the most wonderful
clip~clopping coming at us.
it was invigorating.

you just never know what you are going to see in leiper's fork, tn.
we normally walk in the woodlands behind our acreage but
because it is so dry they haven't cut the very long grass and
it's quite brittle and pokey. so we choose the road instead.
we live on a long windy wonderful road. it attracts motorcyclist and bikers.
it is a beautiful place.
there is only a handful of houses on it and they are quite picturesque.
i love the cows stopping to see us passers~by.
especially the three white faces in a row.
i only wish i had my telephoto lens.
i have always been fascinated with the country and all it's charms.
this singular black cow and the dead tree...so amazing.

i am drawn to old rusty things and this being red...i love it.
a well kept barn with hay bales...classic country.

this is the cutest little tiny house on our road.
buster brown and dh on our walk.
this is pretty much right out our front door....i feel blessed
to live in such a beautiful countryside.

i have been busy adding fall touches here and there.
finally got around to planting some black pansies.
along with some ornamental peppers.
putting out all sorts of gourds and pumpkins including this blue pumpkin.
it is a great time of year to enjoy the out of doors.
happy autumn.

perfect day

my family is a blessing to me.
they had a special day planned for me from beginning to end.
i had a lovely peony from the garden picked and placed by my bed.
then breakfast was served to me in bed with everyone piling on to talk and open
gifts and cards.

as we talked, stories of earlier days are being told and we break into laughter.

then...
my oldest daughter, rachel and oldest son, david and i
went to centennial park for the taca fair.
(tennessee association of craft artists.)
my pottery teacher was selling her pottery and lots of
tennesse artists were at the fair.
we had a wonderful time walking around and checking everything out.

we took a break from the beautiful day and sat on the steps
of the museum and had some kettle corn.

just a few pictures to embarrass the kids.

as we came home from the park, daddio and the kids at
home were planting trees.

well some were surfing on shovels...it's the latest thing in tn.

this is our third year in a row planting trees on mother's day.
i think it might become a tradition...i love it.
i now have two apple trees...one macintosh and one fuji.
also two pear trees. i am so excited to add fruit trees to the farm.

the gorgeous day and i mean gorgeous...perfect weather...was rounded out
by me getting to ride my newly fixed tractor and cut grass quietly by myself
with my ipod on, of course.

as i was surveying my work my darling hubby and kids were
putting steaks on the grill and making the best dinner.

also i received a wonderful photo book of an earlier visit
from my daughter, esther who doesn't live here... along
with a call from her on mother's day morning.

i was treated all day long with a lot of love.
it was a wonderful mother's day and my family deserves a hand.
happy days in may.
