making of bread

who knew making bread could be so beautiful......and delicious.

my son's longtime girlfriend, canaan wanted to bake some bread.
of course i said sure. what ingredients do you need?
i helped her get the stuff she needed and she went to work.
i sat in the kitchen and watched her.
that's different...watching someone cook in your kitchen.
what she made was this.

we called everyone down and all had....

a warm delicious slice....

of buttery bread.....a very beautiful thing indeed.

thanks canaan...you can cook in my kitchen anytime your heart desires.

Oh I bet your kitchen and home smelled delish. I wish I had someone here who wanted to bake bread for me. Yummy!

Marmee....what a treat, warm bread and butter. I just cannot resist.....and to have it made for you, now that really is a treat.

I baked fruit buns on Friday and ate two while they were still warm....I felt a little guilty but they were delicious (and only tiny, well not too large)........

Something about baking bread...it makes me feel so 'domestic'.

What a lovely thing for one to offer to do. I bet the whole house smelled so wonderful. Isn't it glorious to smell fresh baked bread when it's "cold" outside. Makes for a very homey atmosphere.
Love it.

mmmm.... mmmm... yummy fresh bread out of the oven with drenched butter... nothing can compare to the comfort it brings. LOL

It's been a loooong time since I've made fresh bread but with this new cool crispness of autumn in the air finally you're giving me ideas.

Canaan's bread looks perfect and I can almost smell it just thinking about it.

More fun at the farm!

Yum, Marmee... Send Canaan THIS way... She can use my kitchen to make bread also. There's nothing better than fresh cooked bread.

We bought some home-made bread at a market when we were in GA. It was a 7 grain sourdough bread --and was delicious.

Hugs,
Betsy

Years ago when my children were small I baked bread every Wednesday. I baked all our bread for the week. My husband loved coming home from work on Wednesday because he knew hot bread with honey butter would be waiting.
It has been so long since I baked bread....
Thank you for the memories.

Yumm, I can almost smell the bread from here. I haven't made homemade bread in years, but the aroma always reminds me of my grandmother who used to bake the best bread. Anyone who ever did a favor for her always received a loaf of her delicious cinnamon bread as a way of thanks.

Your home is decorated so beautifully for the season, Marmee. Love the scarecrow!

I love homemade bread. I even have a wheat grinder and fresh wheat but haven't baked bread in a long time. I eat way too much bread when I do!

I love your (or is it hers?) turquoise nailpolish!! I sometimes do that colour in the summer.

It must have felt funny to have someone working in your kitchen. I can only imagine, but the results well worth it!
Ummmm - I can smell that fresh bread from here!

susie,

the house smelled sooooo good....it tasted even better.
happy autumn.

cheryl,

it was a treat and to have it made for us was even better.
i think eating too many is the downfall of homebaking but we usually have lots of people around to eat up the extra.
your yummy fruit buns sounds good.
happy autumn.

meems, it was so deliciously good. i loved that canaan wanted to bake it, too. we also had a great time talking while she was baking. good times in the kitchen.
happy autumn.

betsy,

oh i have plenty of bread still to be made around here...first.
she is just visiting from arkansas.
we buy quite a bit of our breads from the market as well.
happy autumn.

sherry,

it has been a while since i baked bread too. having it cooked again in the house made me think about it plus i have been thinking about buying a grainmill and grinding some of our own grains.
so glad you came by and had your fond memories stirred.
happy autumn.

rose,

we have a banana bread/cake recipe that has been handed down for generations that we bake for new neighbours and people who help us out. i love getting something homemade for a gift.
the smell in the house was so nice. on a cold night it is the best.
happy autumn.

robin,
that is the downfall of baking is wanting to eat too much of a really good thing. most of the time we have lots of people around to help finish the goodies off.
happy autumn.

wendy,

that is canaan's nail polish.
it was different having her cook in my kitchen but i have many aspiring chefs around here...two of my sons like to cook certain things and abbey is getting into it now. plus i have a good friend, that cooks cuban food here sometimes.
we also like to have times where we all get in the kitchen and cook together...it is a lot of fun. total chaos...total fun.
hugs to you and happy autumn.
