rainshine

the sun is not glistening but the dewy wetness sure is.

as a river runs thru our property...

and the skies remain grey...

things are still blooming...

butterfly bush planted only a few weeks ago.
cosmos bending down with moisture.

morning glory has found it's way to grow around
birdseed blocks....hanging up in the air.
.
.
.
not all is perfectly alright here at dash home farm...
someone(big all white feet might be a sign of guilt)
has decided to dig up all the beautiful new pansies that
were just planted a few weeks ago.....even though they
were planted in containers....oh bother.
as the rain continues to collect...

and collect....
leaves are slowly making there way to the ground or to the puddles.

falling irregularly...and intermittently

pretty much everything stays damp.

which does give it a different visual quality.
there are endless patches of water in reserve.
finding a higher spot to rest is a good idea.
the hills are still verdant....usually we have a bit more colour
at this time...i assume we are going to have a more spectacular
november.....
.
.
.
renny is always on the watch when we take a walk...soggy or not.
he tries to act nonchalant...but he can't help himself....
curiosity gets the better of him.
and he heads over to where we are walking.

at this point abbey usually stops whatever she is doing...

to converse...it's a private thing...that is until i am standing there
photographing...
at least she gets tickled...
.
.
.
renny on the other hand...

so i turn my attention to other interests and let them
have some alone time.
as of now i don't think we have a taker on the
kestrel house...but we keep checking.
i am for some reason fascinated with tendrils...
seed heads....
trees with knobs...
berries showing their brightly coloured hues...
white flowers blooming wild in the countryside...
grasses that grow horizontally...literally...
also one little girl who loves life with abandon...

leaves in mid change....

spent ironweed....

life is and can be a beautiful endeavour.
.
.
.
as we continue our walk the dogs are getting covered with hitchhikers.

abbey doesn't mind...and neither do they.
.
.
.
being surrounded with acres of land brings your eyes to
see new beauty...you may have never notice while living in
the city....we are in a place of natural beauty...where grasses
are able to grow to very tall lengths...i never saw there graceful
stalks as beautiful before being placed in their midst.

now i find myself drawn to them...they are just as pretty as
any ornamental i have ever seen...and vast.

i used to pass by fields and see a large area full of grass
and sure i enjoyed it but now i see a place where nature is
at it's best...a refuge for so many living things.
a place where natives are allow to flourish.
a place to investigate further.
somewhere to linger...walk...talk...
spend lazy days...taking time to relax.
somewhere to look closely and see all the life it has to offer.
a place we now call home.

bronte' jane loves it.

lylah loves it.

buster brown does too.
.
.
.
we all have found a place to feel comfortable... so we call it home.

We are finally getting a sunny day here. Cold but sunny. Wish I could make some time to walk the farm and take some photos but work is picking up and I can't take the time off.

Love the butterfly photo.

Dear Marmee.....why do I have tears in my eyes....pull yourself together Cheryl...

Such a lovely post....Abbey reminds me of myself as a child. I used to talk to the horses at my Grandfathers.....and her joy at just being, something else that has always come naturally to me.
May your dear Abbey always retain this God given gift....it will be so helpful when life is not as it should be.

I love to walk Nella in the surrounding countryside....and I love to see her have fun....dogs are supposed to have fun...your dogs have a wonderful home and life.

It is good to appreciate all that is around us.....to see the small things keeps us focused....

A beautiful post....full of wonder.....

I just love to visit here, Marmee. Everything you write is so full of passion. We are fortunate to live in this beautiful state. I do believe age helps us see things more clearly, the older we get, the more beautiful it all becomes. Abbey looks like she has a head start on that wisdom. :-)

You guys are receiving about as much rain as we are. It's raining here again this a.m. The rain doesn't seem to bother Abbey much. She looks like she is always having a great time.

cheryl,

i am grateful to have this life...God has given me. the countryside brings out the best in people.
abbey has a natural love for life. it is great to be her mother and get to share in that amazing zest.
it helps keep me young. i too spent lots of time as a child/teen talking to my horses and being out doors.
it is good knowing that what i write speaks of my love for my life, home, family...i love sharing it with you.
life is good.
happy autumn.

frances,

you are very kind...thank you.
life as we get more years behind us has a way of showing us what we should have been noticing all along. it is a great consolation for the whole aging process.
i am very glad you enjoy your visits here and keep coming back.
it means a lot to me. i love building these kind of friendships on the things what we are passionate about.
happy autumn days.
