our butterfly...

is doing well. we have added a few things in the terrarium to
make him (as i was informed by abbey) more comfortable.

some paper butterfly friends so he wouldn't be lonely.
crocuses about to bloom. nectar we made with
a sponge placed in it so he won't get stuck.
cut alstroemerias for fresh nectar.

dirt, some sticks for perching, and of course fresh water.
i have been reading up on butterflies.
most don't overwinter and most only live 4 ~ 6 weeks.
we feel most fortunate to have this guy in our company.
happy winter days in january.

It looks and sounds like a proper home... butterflies are the most beautiful creatures. What a reminder of spring and new life your little fellow is in the dead of winter.
hugs to you...

Looks like a pretty lucky butterfly, Marmee... I'm glad you have found a way to keep him alive. He couldn't have made it outside this time of year.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering about him.
Hugs,
Betsy

Well if 'he' doesn't overwinter, he sure missed a grand opportunity!

What a beautiful way to remember spring during this cold time! You've created quite a nice home for her; she looks happy to be there. I bet Abbey is thrilled with her.

I don't think you could make a more comfortable home than that for your beautiful house guest, I'm so glad he is doing well.

I loved the photo of the Woodpecker on your earlier post and the one of Abbey and also Abbey's very creative hand print photo.
