big girl

abbey will be having a birthday this month.
she has been asking to get her ears pierced for a few years
but we wanted her to be old enough to make the decision
and care for them herself.

off to sweet and sassy we went.
this place describes abbey to a tee.
here she is trying to build up courage to have the piercing done.

as i have mentioned before, she is the princess and the pea.
i have always cut the tags out of her clothes because they bother her.
she has always worn a slip or something soft under her princess dresses because they itch her.
her sheets and blankets have to be soft or she wants nothing to do with them.
so even though this was what she wanted, it took about 20 -30 minutes for her to convince herself that she would go thru with it.

she nearly lept off the chair with the first piercing.
and then a good 10-15 minutes of talking her into the next one.
at some point i said let's just take the one-eared pierced pirate out of here.
she knows i would so she agreed to finish what we came to do.

here we are after.
whew!
at least she won't be one of those that has multiple piercings.

that's my pirate, ur i mean princess!

Precious moments, Marmee, and beautiful photos. I remember the day well when my daughter got her ears pierced ... a big day. My best friend had her ears pieced with her (her daughter, my daughter's best friend, died in
3rd grade) and my friend wanted to connect with mine in a special way. Life is good.

What a great story! I felt like I was THERE! Of course, the pictures were priceless too. Methinks Abbey is so brave. It takes very little courage to do something one is not afraid to do. Oh, but to do something one desires even in the face of fear...that's a true braveheart! Bravo, Abbey! Bravo!!!

Dear Marmee,
She is precious! I understand how Abby feels about "soft". You have a special daughter and a fantastic relationship with her.
Wonderful you were able to spend a day just the two of you!
Mothers and Daughters have a connction that is extra special.
Fun pictures.

Is that a stuffed animal she is clinging to? A difficult age for little girls, caught between wanting to be a woman but still thinking like a little girl. Mow she has made one more step toward the woman.

thanks rissa, it's so true what you said and i will share that with her. i didn't know it was going to be quite that hard for her. but she did it and that is the point.

sherry,
abbey indeed is special. she came after my husband's accident and has been our little healing baby. she posesses special qualities that make her a joy to have around. she loves her daddio and me so much, it is a blessing.

marnie,
that was a big stuffed white puppy they had and she wanted to hold it and nearly sqeezed it's stuffing out.
i think you hit the nail on the head when you said she wants to be more grown up and still has little girlish ways, it is that betwixt/between age. i am hoping she will hold on to the wonder of being a girl while she becomes a lady.

tina,
me too i have only pierced my ears the one time. it's hard to conceive that people want to do it over and over again.
i think she will always remember the day and treasure it.

The things we females go through for the beauty...

Now that it's over she will be so happy when she is all healed and sporting her cutie earrings.

susie,
i think she has a bit of the pirate in her. but she didn't want just one ear done. lol!
my mom still never has had her done. i got mine at 15.
she said to me, don't you think i look prettier now?" and i said, "no you are pretty with or without earrings." and she said "well i mean the person who has them done thinks they look prettier with a little dazzel on their ears." so much a girly thing to say.

marmee said...

oh yes, cheryl, not a child in her own eyes but still my little girl. she does have a sweet disposition. has very much her own ideas of the way things should be though.

marmee said...

meems, you are so right, she will be glad when she can wear all the earrings. it was unnerving for me watching her squirm and fidget to gain the courage to go forth with it. i hope this is it and she will be content.

That's great! Our three younger girls had to wait until they were 10, I recognize that little fearful face there.

darla i am glad to see you getting around at least a little. abbey is that same age later this month. my other two girls were alot younger when theirs were done. i am guessing the anticipation was not as great.
ps. know that my prayers are with you.

A major moment in a girl's life. I was in the 4th grade when I convinced my grandmother, lol. It kind of hurt too.

abbey is in the fourth grade also, pgl> that is funny i guess we all start thinking a little more ladilike around that age.

dear, sweet, adorable Abbey! i am sure you look fantastic! you will have this special day forever in your memory thru your mom's pics. and your most special friend and niece Gwynevere was with you all the way cheering you on to be brave like she was just a few weeks ago. we girls have to stick together thru thick and thin, highs and lows, with or without our ears pierced! for your info, by the way, your grandma does have her ears pierced too. i was in my sixties before i had it done. a good friend went with me to help me through it! she kept assuring me there was nothing to it! she lied!!! but now i can wear so many more earrings and i don't have to just get clip-ons. they are way too old-fashioned for your hip grandma ;-)

marmee said...

gigi,
how could i forget that you had your ears pierced. not old age of course. maybe all those years of looking at the clipon earrings that were never as cute as the pierced ones. lol!
anyway, abbey is enjoying her ears being bedazzled with little blue flowers and she is caring for them quite nicely. i think the timing was right on.

She looks relieved and happy in the last photo - I'm so glad! Now it's time for princess earrings!

Marmee,

She is precious~~I always enjoy stories about daughters. When you have a son, there aren't the same kind of bonding experiences. But I know Hot Wheels, Transformers and other things my son loved!

shellmo,
so glad you stopped by "things i love." she will be wanting lots of those princess earrings, of that i am sure.

thanks for coming by, natural moments. it was indeed a special time.

thank you gail,
i am privy to both a daughters world and a sons world. there is just nothing like bonding with either on those special moments.
