locks of love

sometimes my children surprise me.
tonight(2 am) after our new years eve dinner...
after the fireworks...
after sitting around the campfire...
after thawing out...
my youngest son jesse decided it was time to cut his hair.
he had been talking about donating it.
after we looked up locks of love online...
after we measured his hair in a ponytail to be 12 inches...
after washing it...
after blowing drying it...
after straight ironing it...

...we cut it...
very nice my handsome young man...with a big heart.

i am so proud of you jesse!

'locks of love' indeed! love in giving, love in receiving, love in using! it is a full circle of love - from the heart of a caring young man, who sacrificed the locks he loved, to help someone who would love to have locks! Jesse, your grandma is so very proud of you!!! i appreciate that you did such an individual act of charity, from your own desire to give something precious to help someone else live their life more completely. i'm sure you don't want all the attention you will get, but you can be inwardly satisfied that you are a hero! i was moved to tears by your decision, and i love your new look, too. watch out girls, there is a new man in town!!

How sweet for him to have done this. With his shorter hair, his beautiful eyes really stand out.

frances,
thank you i was moved by his own decision to do this and so the swelling of the heart ensued.
happiest of new years to you.

betsy,
i sure wish i had that head of hair. i just kept cutting and cuttting. hubby and i are so proud of him making this decision on his own. he is a wonderful young man to parent and to call ours.
happy new year~!~

gigi,
what a wonder this young man of ours is. how could i not cut his hair when he wanted to do such a noble act. of course it was 2 am and my eyes were blurry but he was determined and so full of energy in the giving it helped me get a surge for the cutting. of course tonight i am seeing double but i am about to lay down and rest my weary head. lol!
as you know as handsome as jesse is that is just how thoughtful and sweet he is.
i think his oldest brother was telling him the same thing in regard to the girls, whoa, watch out. all the while i am glad he is a little on the reserved side.

susie,
my handsome young man with the deep blue eyes is such a kindhearted boy. i love his new look and i love his giving heart.

Marmee, This act of loving-kindness toward others is so indicative of our sweet Jesse. So gentle in his ways is he. Of course, I really liked that long style on him but that's probably from my left over hippie days. sigh.

Good thing about hair for healthy young folks is that it will grow back... very quickly if he wants. He is handsome either way... I'm with you... so happy he is reserved... for now. Soon enough for all that other baloney. :-)

Keep forgetting to say the last few times I've been here... I LOVE your new background. It would have been my choice as well... you snagged it first. oh well...

Rissalee said...

Holy Cow! SO HANDSOME!!! And really cool too, to donate to locks of love. Way to go, Jesse!

marmee said...

meems, ditto to all you said about our jess. i figure he is still trying to find out who he really wants to be so long or short is fine. i do like being able to focus on those big baby blues though.
hey i am glad you like the new background i really love it too. it is more me than any i have had. but soon i will have to change it. it not being the new year anymore. can you believe we are in 2009. where have all the years gone?
i am looking forward to this one though, a year of contentment, joy, reveling in all that is already accomplished in life, and looking to new adventures to conquer.

Marmee, What can I say!!!!
Your son, Jesse, has given one of the most precious gifts that he can give. His beautiful locks will make a precious gift to some person that has lost their hair mostly due to chemo. And of course the abundant pride you have in him & his own pride is well deserved.
Locks of Love is a fantastic organization that helps many people. I gave once--White hair, hopefully is not in much demand.
I know you are proud & Jesse is one gorgeous guy. Look out girls or should I say guys as you have competition. A very handsome lad indeed.

lola,
you and jesse are commrades in giving, that's cool. i am sure all of the locks received are put to great use even the white ones.
jesse has indeed made a wonderful gift of his long, thick, curly locks and some recipient will be mighty glad to have them.
he is a very sweet boy and so handsome in his presence. we are so proud!

This is so good. I know a man that does this over and over. He grows it, cuts it, donates it, and starts growing it again.
