autumn inside and out

it is the season for first fires in the hearth.

it is the season for using images of all things harvest.

it is the season to tie up birdhouses in ribbons and burn the wicks of new candles.

it is the season for pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.

it is the season for dusting off scarecrow and perching him on a bench.

it is the season for colours.

it is the season for pulling your decorations out of storage.

and sprucing up even an apple orchard ladder.

it is one of the seasons i love.

it is the season for bundles of cornstalks.

it is the season for stacking cinderella pumpkins.

it is the season of apple gourds being put on display.

it is the season for enjoying fallen leaves.

it is the season of blooming mums, of adding squash and gourds so you can gaze upon them.

it is a glorious season to be thankful for all we have and

reflect on the blessings our lives are full of!

happy harvest season to you all!

marmee, These pictures and decorations are wonderful. Even if it is still warm here, I could feel all those wonderful feelings fall evokes by looking at them.

I see you have been extremely busy since my last visit, Marmee ... a job well done. Your home and grounds are charming. Do hope you have time to kick back and relax a bit. We had continual fires at the cottage, which were wonderfully warming after working outside. Again home to tidy outside here!

So fascinating to see your decorations, Marmee. The photos were lovely and the words...so beautiful. I haven't had enough and will be back very soon!!

Your home looks so inviting, Marmee, with all these lovely fall decorations. I love the decorated ladder, and I never would have thought to use hedge apples in a display, but they add the perfect touch!

kh,
so glad you are enjoying my fall adornments. i love to decorate, it is what i love to do. come back often and very soon you are very welcome.

rose,
i have never had the faux apples before but i thought as soon as i saw them laying in my yard they would look great mixed in with pumpkins and gords.
that apple ladder used to be in my sons room so he could climb to a ledge in his room and read. when we moved i left it outside against the trees so it is fun to put different decorations on it.

Beautiful home & decorations. I love Fall. I really like the way you used the ladder.
What pray tell is a hedge apple? The large apple looking thing--what is it & where did you find it. They all look terrific together.

I so need to get busy pulling my fall decorations out and getting them in place. I keep think maybe tomorrow...

Today as I was dripping sweat (still hot and very muggy this week) working in the garden I kept trying to remind myself it was autumn and I really do need to get in the decorating mode.

You have done a fabulous job decorating your entrance- as you do so well always. All the images do inspire me to think "autumn". Love the ladder and all the pumpkins and different squash varieties... and that fire! If only...

lola,
i am so glad you came by, been missing you. the hedge apple/faux apple is on the trees at the front of our property. they grow all over them just like apples and when i am cutting the grass with tractor or they ?ripen? they fall off and decorate my yard. i have run several over with the tractor and they look like an apple inside.
seems like i was handed an opportunity to use them in my decor. happy autumn to you!

hello meems, you have been such a busy girl i don't know how you have time for decorating at all. hopefully you will get to it.
(well low and behold as i write we are receiving a very light shower. i hope we get rain all day. we need it as you know.)
i did get a break being able to have a fire this early. it had cooled off to 40's one night and at 6 am i started a fire and kept it until it was hotter outside than it was inside. some people(my children) think i'm kooky. but i say if life hands you a cool morning, burn a fire.
i don't think i have ever had my decorations out this early but i just couldn't wait this year. i think it might be cause of the double droughts we have had. it makes everything ugly which i do not like at all.
thanks for taking a look. i am so glad we get to share like this. it makes me feel so much like a part of what you are doing. silly isn't it but i am grateful for it anyway.
happy gardening and happy autumn to you!

Love this series. The first photograph, of the fire, is awesome.

Meems said...

Dear Marmee,
I had to come back again and say how much I like your new header. Very nice. Hey, just so you know you aren't kooky... I'd have a fire going too at 40 degrees... doesn't everybody do that?
I'm very grateful too you started a blog so I can share in all "the things you love"! Not at all silly... it's actually very helpful.
Love you!

marmee said...

meems, thanks i forgot how to go in to the header and change the words around but i will keep trying to figure it out. i am so technically challenged it isn't funny. just like the slideshow above i got it to post on myspace but on here it never does what it is supposed too.
i am very grateful to have this way of seeing and experiencing what you are doing.
now if gigi would just jump in and not worry so much, yes mom i am talking about you. it would be great to see your stuff too.
love you mom and sis, and missing you both too!
estee' is coming with g in a couple of weeks.

Fall is the best season. There is nothing like that feeling that you get with the slight chill in the air and the thought of all the holidays that are coming. I love the Cinderalla pumpkins all stacked up. You definitely have a knack for making everything look so poetic and romantic. Happy Fall Days to You!

Dear Marmee,
Your harvest decoarations are fantastic! I too have been enjoying the Hedge apples...I collect them from the Osage Orange Trees for my basement..they keep the crickets out.

sherry,
i can never remember the name osage. thanks, i need to write it down. i just call them faux apples. how long do yours usually last? i had them in a wooden bowl inside and they started to really ripen but they are beautiful until they do. thank you so much for your sweet comments.
